After meeting Shabari, Lord Rama and Lakshmana continued their search for Sita. As they walked deeper into the forest, they did not know that a great hero had already tried to save her.

That hero was not a king or a warrior…
He was a brave bird named Jatayu.

Who Was Jatayu

Jatayu was a large and powerful vulture, and a close friend of King Dasharatha, Lord Rama’s father.

He was old, but his heart was full of courage and righteousness.

Jatayu respected Lord Rama deeply and always wanted to protect what was right.

Ravana Takes Sita Away

One day, when Lord Rama and Lakshmana were away, Ravana came to the forest and kidnapped Sita.

He placed her in his flying chariot and began taking her to Lanka.

Sita cried for help, calling out,
“Rama! Lakshmana!”

Her voice echoed through the forest.

Jatayu Hears the Cry

Jatayu was resting on a tree when he heard Sita’s cries.

He quickly looked up and saw Ravana taking her away.

Even though he was old, Jatayu could not ignore this injustice.

The Brave Fight

He warned Ravana,
“Stop! You cannot take Sita like this!”

But Ravana refused.

A fierce battle began in the sky.

Jatayu attacked Ravana with all his strength. He broke Ravana’s chariot and fought bravely.

For a moment, it seemed like Jatayu might win.

Jatayu’s Sacrifice

But Ravana was very powerful.

In anger, he attacked Jatayu and cut his wings.

Jatayu fell to the ground, badly injured.

Even in pain, he felt proud that he tried to save Sita.

Rama Finds Jatayu

Later, Lord Rama and Lakshmana reached the place where Jatayu had fallen.

They saw the injured bird lying on the ground.

Rama rushed to him and said,
“Who did this to you?”

With his last strength, Jatayu told them everything about Sita and Ravana.

Rama’s eyes filled with tears.

Rama Honors Jatayu

Lord Rama was deeply moved.

He said,
“Jatayu, you are like a father to me. You gave your life trying to save Sita.”

Rama performed Jatayu’s last rites with great respect.

This showed how much he valued Jatayu’s bravery and sacrifice.
